COMMITTEES

The Activities Committee is responsible for planning fun and informational activities for MPWC members that follow our general meeting. For informational programs, there have been speakers on estate planning, senior driving, personal training, women’s health issues, and local authors. Fun activities have included trivia, bingo and fashion shows. The overall intent of activities is to foster fun and friendship among members. On occasion, social activities are planned, such as family picnics, day trips, museum visits or cooking classes.  Community Outreach is one of this committee's activities and is further described below.

The Communications Committee provides information to our members upon request of the President or other designated committee members. Information includes reminders of monthly meetings, upcoming as well as scheduled activities, outreach opportunities and member support. Publicity is provided through social media forums, including our Website page and blog, Facebook and the community's monthly magazine. The committee also compiles the annual member directory for distribution.

Fundraising Committee provides opportunities to raise funds throughout the year in support of the underserved residents of Clay County and the Club's scholarship program.  Directory Ads, Holiday Arts & Craft Fair and Luminaria subcommittees manage the annual events required to raise funds.  Profits from directory ad and luminaria sales are earmarked for the scholarship fund.  Profits from the Holiday Arts & Craft Fair are used to support the Club's general charitable giving to assist organizations throughout the year.

Clay County Schools Committee supports requests of assistance from local Green Cove Springs schools and other schools throughout Clay County. In the past, MPWC has provided school supplies, hygiene items and equipment, as well as weekend food for families and students at Charles E. Bennett through Maggie's Meals and Maggie's Beekeepers.

The Membership Committee identifies potential new Club members, welcomes them upon joining and encourages their participation in our Club.  The committee also has three subcommittees:  Helping Hands, Hospitality and Sunshine.  Helping Hands, through its volunteer members, provides meals for members who have expressed a need and a helping hand to drive members to appointments, etc., if needed. Hospitality visits and welcomes new residents in Magnolia Point and provides community information. Sunshine provides comfort to members during times of illness or grief through personal contact and cards, flowers or memorial donations.

The Scholarship Committee supports the Club's educational mission by annually soliciting applications, reviewing and awarding MPWC scholarships to deserving Clay High senior girls.

Community Outreach, a subcommittee of the Activities Committee, offers in-kind support through member donations on an as-needed basis as part of the Club's charitable giving efforts. For example, the Club has collected items to support Clay County schools, Kans4K9s, paper bags for Waste Not Want Not, diapers and wipes for Way Free Medical Clinic, eyeglasses for the Lions Club and men’s pants and shoes for the Vineyard Transitional Shelter.
